In cases where the original survey provides expenditures according to the COICOP classification, this variable is the sum over the expenditure variables above. Otherwise, it is either derived from the "total expenditures" variable in the original survey (if available) or is left blank.

Amounts of expenditure are provided in an aggregated form in Millime.

All "per capita" amounts were multiplied by the number of household members to compute amounts per household.

Amounts were divided by 1000 to convert it to dinar .

Some detailed household expenditures provided by item, source and in some cases occasion of expenditure were summated and compared to the aggregated amounts and found acceptably similar, hence the aggregates originally provided from the statistical agency were used in the harmonized data file.
