The next census was conducted in 1897, after which the census was conducted almost every 10 years.\n- In 1966, a population and housing census was conducted using the sampling method.\n- The 1976 and 1986 censuses were conducted (using two forms, one of which was a long form for 20% of the families and a short form for the rest of the families).\n- The 1996 and 2006 censuses used only one form for all families.\n- Introduction of electronic census in 2017 (with two short forms for 90% of families and one long form for the rest of families with a ratio of 10%).\n\nCAPMAS conducted the 2017 General Population, Housing and Establishment Census, the fourteenth census in the series of Egyptian censuses since the first census in Egypt in 1882. Following the 2006 census, CAPMAS mobilized all of its human and material resources to plan, prepare and conduct the 2017 census, starting with the design of the questionnaires and ending with data dissemination and announcement of the results.\n\nThe number of staff involved in the census was about 45,000 enumerators, relying mainly on young graduates qualified for fieldwork, in addition to some CAPMAS staff. All staff were trained centrally and in the field using the latest training methods, and the scientific material was provided on compact discs (CD3) in addition to the well-known traditional methods to ensure clarity and uniformity of concepts for all census staff.\nCAPMAS has followed the United Nations Statistical Commission recommendations on international concepts and definitions, as well as the list of basic outputs to be included in the 2017 General Population, Housing, and Establishment Census.","coll_dates":[{"start":"2017-01-29","end":"2017-07-31","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"Egypt","abbreviation":"EGY"}],"geog_coverage":"Comprehensive enumeration on the national level .","analysis_unit":"The census is based on the method of comprehensive inventory of all members of society, buildings and facilities located in the country, based on tablets, electronic applications and geographical maps.","universe":"The general census covered the population, dwellings and establishments.","data_kind":"Census\/enumeration data [cen]","notes":"The General Population, Housing, and Establishment Census form contains data on the following areas:\n\n- Population: characteristics of the family and household in terms of age, sex, education, occupation of each family member, occupation, social status, type of waste disposal, and the question about disabilities\n\n- Dwellings: characteristics of the building, such as the number of floors and housing units, the year of construction of the oldest part of the building, the type of construction material used to build the building, whether the building has services such as sewerage, electricity, water, and natural gas.\n\n- Establishments: characteristics of establishments.
